Okay, I've been reading Swiss's MAX stories and...

1. they are GOOOOOOD.

2. I like mech's

but....

whe nI was writing Hunter's Defence, and discussing the avp universe with Prezes, we came to a simultaneous conclusion- what if we ARMED the powerloader that Ripley drove in Aliens the movie????????????

It was a logical conclusion- the Loader has enough lift, is big enough to carry the added ARMOUR, etc...

Only after I wrote Hunters Defence did I hear about the MAX unit [I obviously didn't do my research, but I tried NOT to read the Aliens novels and AvP: War wasn't available]

Major difference: my Loader has none of that [pathetic] mind interface....

BTW: why DID S. Perry come up with that option???

The M.A.X unit's mind integration technology was destroyed before it came into widespread use, thus meaning pilots |had| to be used.

as for M.A.X versus a powerloader, well for a start, the M.A.X unit's armour plating is far superior to anything the powerloader could bring up, the powerloader itself has a slower reaction time to front, but is lighter, meaning it would be more agile. As for arming a powerloader, that was what the M.O.X (Mobile Offensive Exo-Warrior) unit originally was, just with acidproofing and weapons mounted to the arms, MOX was recalled when the pilots went totally berserk, putting many lives at risk on the battlefield - there are certain advantages to the powerloader though, the human occupant probably would have a little more focus as he(or she) wouldn't have so many drugs pumped into them And that the powerloader itself was designed for heavy lifting, meaning your robot deathmatch would probably contain quite a bit of throwing...

one other thing the reason you probably hadn't heard of the M.A.X unit is because the only times ive recalled hearing about them are when marine berserker squads are brought into the story - the berserkers were in the comics and Alien: Berserkers, i know that much - but Earth War? i dont know...

p.s - S Perry didn't develop the mind technology, the Horione project's entire mission was to save lives through making a pilot-less M.A.X unit, but as you'll find out in the third story i have posted, Horione was destroyed by a cruiser shortly after they were rescued - removing all traces of the technology, i could write a few things up to explain any loose ends if you would like...

It wasn't Aliens: Earth War but AvP: War

I'm gonna upload the remaining 19 chapters of my book thingy, where they use the powerloaders.

Well I think it all depends on what weapons the powerloader will have when facing the MAX remember the powerloader from aliens exposed the pilot so a weapon like a gun could kill the pilot.

The mind interface thing I believe is better because it is a little faster then pressing alot of buttons.

The loader with no mind interface provides more option in the story, as no 'alterations' to the pilot are needed, as the technology the series has not moved a head enough to provide easy control system for the mind interface. During a story a number of characters can 'drive' the loader without special equipment/surgery

Also the idea of armour plating the loader is to encase the pilot in a way to protect him/her from outside influence, eg. tank crew inside a tank.

Today’s fighter pilots have HOTAS controls, Hand On Throttle And Stick, where all the major functions buttons are under their fingertips. As long as you don’t give the pilot of the loader too many functions to play with it will not be that difficult to control. The computer on board should take care of the most useless functions

A powerloader with armor and weapons and easy controles would be really cool but it wouldn't be a powerloader anymore almost like cars and tanks.

Anyone could controle the MAX it would only kill you if you didn't have that thing in your head thats all.

What you also must realise is that the MAX units were designed for killing, i would draw up some concept art of what the unit looked like when it was used near the end of the war if i had time (and if you had the art gallery up) - the powerloader just doesnt have the flexibility to thrash one of my little babies

your point about the gallery is taken.....

draw 'em anyway.

[we're working on the gallery thingy]

The idea behind the loader is that it already exists.

No doubt that a mashine designed for this job will be better, bu the loader is a tryed and tested design, available in large numbers, trianning is provided almost as standared. All we are doing id adding some armour plating, getting rid of the grips and adding some weapons....

the MAX already exists, and some of the technical specs for it are far superior to the powerloader, i cannot stress enough how adding the armour to the powerloader and adding the guns is just removing the main benefits - its lightweight and has the ability to lift heavy things, thats why the xenoborgs never really hit off, they just ruined the perfect concept by adding weaponry it didnt need. Anyway, this would only turn into a gunfight in the end, and that would basically result in the winner being the one with better armour. Acid-proof anyone ?

Also, while im here - ive posted up the two concluding chapters, langton and theros, some chapters have only had a single view - me - and the alien stories forum is dead since this thread started (no probs tho) so i'd appreciate a little feedback on the handful of chapters ive done for langton (theros is being worked on a little more before i release any of the first chapters)

The powerloader is probably the best developed peice of technology in the movie.

NOT that it was invented by the Aliens movie-making crew... [the concept HAS been in scifi b4]

So demi what do you call your powerloaders or do you still call them powerloaders.

I was this think that if it was modified for combat it would have a new name or something.

he was too lazy to come up with a new name.

maybe it WILL get changed in the future rewrite.

Any ideas as to new weapons??

BTW: he also uses Mechs....

Lol... A reason why you probably wouldn't see many fights from an M.A.X and a "Power Loader" or as some people call "Heavy Loader" is because they arn't ment to do so!

Plus the fact that a M.A.X. only needs to get back a few yards before it can fire a rocket at the Power loader! So if there did happen to be a fight... It wouldn't last that long... I suppose so anyway
