Sometimes when I load this site, I get some popups. Every few times, a certain group of popups appear, and one of them changes my home page, and I have to go back to my internet options and fix it manually. I have Internet explorer 6 and Windows XP. Its a recent thing (last week or so), and I don't have a virus or spyware that might be doing it. It only happens with this site. I am not blaming the site, I know its not your fault, I am just to find a way to keep this from happening and thought someone here might be able to help. Is there some setting I can change so web pages cannot change my home page at all, or at least can't change it without my permission?

Did you ever say yes to a request to install a required component???

So advertisers do that, they include a spyware component on their page. A gray window appears telling you that you need to install some crap to make this page work...

You end up installing spyware, and thats the end of your relative privacy....

More and more of these things are now appearing on the web, you simply have to be careful not to install anything that you are not sure is absolutly necesary.

No, I don't install any of that stuff, and as I said I have scanned for spyware and viruses already.

Try Mozilla, you can ban the popups there, and many more useful things. It's the best browser I know

Yes, I use Mozilla Firebird (its latest incarnation) and it comes with a popup blocker built in. I haven't seen a popup since switching to this browser. I can fully recommend it.

A friend of mine added a bit of scripting to it which also stops all those annoying, flickering ads appearing on the pages themselves. I get to view nice, clean web pages with none of those awful casino and porn ads.

With more popup blockers around, more agressive popups appear. How else are people supposed to pay for the websites????

Just let one popup load a day, and I'll be very greatful

Aren't your popups part of doubleclick / fastclick or another tracking cookie spyware tecnology? I'm not interested in reciving milions of spams a day.

Not as far as I know, but with todays parent company/subsidary structures of companies any thing is possible......

Still, if people did have all those pop up blockers, there would be no need for this intrusive software

The search file gets an update every week, so the proggie KNOWS what to look for in terms of new "spy" cookie technology, hacks to your registry, etc.

Amazing.
