1 GB of ddr ram? Your never going to need that much. You may aswell just save yourself some money and get something along the lines of a Geforce3 Ti 500

Me & demi would not buy that piece a sh#t.

It goes alot quicker than you think. UT, upcoming UT2. When I'm on the net, 4-8 IEwindows open, 3-5 html editor windows, DAP downloading something, Creative Player up and running Just to name a few.

As it all runs on Win98SE....

My origional system had a 8 Meg ATI in it, I upgraded the card about a year and a half ago. I desperately need an overall upgrade, but I'll probably have to settle for more RAM for now, until I'm no longer a student anyway.

Ummm, I don't remember all of it but here's my best.

Pentium III 700 MHz

10 Gig Hard Drive

And then rest I'll have to post later because I'm not on that computer right now.

I'm gonna sit on the GeForce until a 128MBDDR, 4-engine, 4or8-pipeline card comes out. They're already a year late.

For now with a 1.4Athlon and plenty of DDR RAM my current card(s) will do fine.

A 128mb card with 4 GPU's? That would be the Voodoo5 6000, which is not coming out since 3dfx went under.

There is however a 128mb version of the Geforce2mx, lord kows why since more memory won't help since it only has one pipeline, so just because they chuck more ram on it doesn't increase the memory bandwidth. Although most people don't know that, they'll see "128mb of ram" and go "Holy Shit!" and buy it and get ripped off.

Prezes:

The load that you described there would nowhere near use up 1gig of ram. A system running all of those would run perfectly fine on 256mb. Unless you are going to be doing industrial graphic design, or intensive CAD work, then there really is no reason to get more then 256mb of ram.

Also, the graphics card you are speaking of would perform very poorly in games. Those are industrial graphics cards meant for things such as CAD design and rendering engineering models. A Geforce3 would easily outperform a card like that in any game. And i'm sure that you are interested in gaming since that is one of this sites largest aspects.

Actually Prezes and me ARE [or rather still are]considering doing some good 'ol rendering for which we need as much 'ooomph' as possible.

The Oxygen and others work ONLY in OpenGL [but then think of the look of your Unreal Tournament rendered in OpenGL on such a card....]

The Voodoo 6000????? nah.

I was thinking of a Radeon that was supposed to come out last Christmas.

Spec was minimum 128MB and 4 pipelines and 4 engines [me thinks]

RE: DDR RAM, the prices are good, so why not buy a Gig??

I also have to buy a new lapper.

THIS time it ain't gonna be friggin Compaq, and no Windows ME on the bastard either.

I love Asus lappers, especially the one with standalone graphics and the CD player for which you don't have to boot the whole lapper...
