I noticed that the "Aliens" lit section is filling up [don't anyone write Predator stuff anymore?? ].

Anyways: would you like me to create an additional section called "Alien" where you could upload stuff NOT involving the gung-ho Marines???

We have two more sections coming up soon too:

- scripts [for anyoine wanting to write an A5, P3 or AvP script]

- thoughts [where you will be able to upload essays and imaginary 'reports' about the Universe]

any other ideas appreciated.

the idea's good, but the problem is, the ideas for a non marine related story are still quite limited, even the original aliens had weapons, so maybe catagories like... dates? You had the right idea though... maybe have the four different catagories, Alien Aliens, Alien III and Alien 4 and have the choice of setting your story around it, i know most of my stories are turning towards the alien 4 story, but if you were going to make a marine one, you'd put it under Aliens, for the obvious reason... a survival one with minimal weapons would be Alien and Alien III.

Of course, thats only a suggestion...

Yep- thats my point- try to set apart the "USCM issue" from any other creative approaches.

Any other writers agree?? disagree??

BTW: SInce I don't write Aliens, it's not MY problem.... Just trying to help out....

maybe take it one step further...

assign dates, starting from the very first alien incident, right through to alien 4. Then have catagories of years, maybe in sections of 10 years... ie 2010-20, 2020-30 etc, of course these dates are all wrong but it would mean the whole idea of creating a universe... it'd be like making a scrap book or some kind of history book on aliens. Then next to each date you could have the number of articles in that catagory and encourage people to write in the empty periods. Also, if we gave him credit we could use the timeline from the Aliens encyclopedia so that people would know what happened during that period...

mmm... complicated-sounding... but again, only a suggestion.

here's an example of my idea just to break down the complicated sounding-ness of it in the post before

Aliens Stories

Before 1900AD Currently (1) Stories _Click here to View history on this period_ (maybe get Hicks to write some extra stuff from the movies around here?)

1900-2000 Currently (2) Stories _Click here to View history on this period_

2000-2100AD Currently (4) Stories _Click here to View history on this period_

2100-2200AD Currently (7) Stories _Click here to View history on this period_

2200-2300AD

2400-2500AD (This was the last recorded date for an alien incident '2493AD' taken from the aliens incident depicted on the SNES alien game. Possiblities for a further "Future" chapter...

Well thats about it, its a little nicer than just removing the marines stories from the non marines ones, which still do have some promising original elements to them

I like the idea! We could set the lit section up as our own little 'universe' of sorts.

that smacks of resurrecting ProjectAvpUniverse....

interesting.

i think that maybe the timeline idea is good, although if you wanted to find a particular story you would have to search all sections to find it, and also, like with both of my stories currently hosted, i havent defined a date for them, since they do not really need one. i could define a date as it would make no difference on the bearing of the story.

Overall, i dont actually think the aliens section is filling up at all really

1. That date thing MAY be too confusing to not-too-deeply-involved readers [you'd be shooting yourself in the foot as writers by confusing the readers as to whats what]

2. If the writers [as in many of you] say yes, it'll get done.

just have an extra "view all stories alphabetically" link, its easy enough to do...

alphabetically as in each story type or ALL stories on the site?? [cause the ones in each type ARe already like that...]

you could take out the individual story descriptions, they take up four or five lines each, and just have the story names listed

just remind me: whats the point of this???

goddammit, you have to make everything seem complicated. Use the date system for ALL the catagories, then just have a link to ALL the stories sorted in alphabetical order, maybe in pages of ten or so...

if the sections are divided up into groups of say... 100 years then both your stories would go in the same catagory, its not too hard to work out surely? maybe you could have the option to have a date put in when you create a new book, so that say... an event that occured on the first of january 2500AD, would come higher in the list than an event in january 2501AD...

its a flawless idea, its just a matter of whether it'll suit your idealisms of the literature section.
