I've actually considered this myself. What I mean by "mixed-genre" is that it contains characters from multiple gaming worlds that have found themselves in the world of an additional game. It would be quite an interesting experiment to see if a writer could do it.

I think it would be less of an entertainment issue and more of an excercise in learning to write belivably. The writer would try to put together the reasons why these characters are together in such an anachronistic setting, how their personalities interact with each other, and what they do once the initial issues of just tolerating each other are behind them.

For example, I've considered writing a story containing Patrick Galloway (Clive Barker's Undying), JC Denton (Deus Ex), and Squall Lionheart (Final Fantasy VIII), together in the Unreal universe. ((In other words, that particular combination is taken.)) Has such an idea ever occurred to anybody else?

I was thinking of Unreal meets AvP, especially, the Skaarj WarMasters competing withn a Pred Pack in hunting aliens

There have been a number of official crossovers beyond Aliens vs Predator, such as Aliens vs Batman/ Superman/ Witchblade/ Terminator/ on the Titanic/ in an Abyss/ etc...

Some work well (I quite liked A v Batman); some don't. I seem to recall a Star Trek/ X-Men crossover and I flicked through the first few pages and thought - this looks lame. I thought the same with A v P v T.

One trick could be to establish your setting then have the characters firmly entrenched in that setting, as if they've lived there all their lives. I don't know the first thing about your characters or the setting so I don't know how difficult this would be, but one thing I personally would be against is the characters just suddenly appearing in the Unreal universe from their own for no apparent reason, for the sole purpose of this story.

So don't make up a reason for them being there - they just ARE there. Your reason is "I have a story to tell that involves these interesting characters in this interesting setting".

A disclaimer at the start of the story may work in your favour to head any continuity sticklers off at the pass.

I agree with SM, there is nothing worse than reading a story which combines different genres and find new a paraghraps of explanations as to why the characters are there. You just find yourself so dirstacted by some wierd multi-demension/ time-travel theories that you no loanger want to read it.

Then again some genre mixings will never work out. People tend to create their own visions of the universe as it exists in that story and to have two different visons put together (ie, AvP and Babylon 5) will make the readers avoid any of you future books.

Uhm... actually I thought that was what makes a crossover so interesting. Of course there's some explaining to do on both - let's say - races, but not too much. I mean, ok, mixing up timelines (I usually reject any form of timetravel with all my spark) is horrible, but as (ie.) Predators fly to other worlds to go hunting, they might as well encounter something unhuman from a completely different story.
I'm just asking, is it ok if you publish a story around here that is a crossover of characters from games and with characters who are NOT shown in games to date ?

As usual I apologize for any damage done on brain or eyes by my confusing posts.

There's no problem at all with adding characters and events from elsewhere. I've done it, but only one person has so far spotted him without me saying where he came from! Since then, several of my characters have borne passing resemblance to those in the same TV show from many years ago!

(Oh god I'm old!)

I am also kicking around ideas for a short crossover story myself - Aliens meet the Goa'uld from the Stargate SG1 TV show! Just need to decide on a half credible storyline that will throw them together in a convincing way. Parasite meets parasite!

Sounds neat. Your aliens are pretty interesting to read about since they're not only killing machines, but a sentient force who are even able to form alliances intead of using tactics to crush their enemies.
Btw, i found my way to your page... that artwork is wicked, makes me feel totally inferior. I'm fighting my way through your stories now ('Strange Tastes' WAS a bit of a shock though ), pretty good stuff !

The crossover thing... I though of something WAY out of the slimy organic grids we're movin about here... Since TFs are aliens too and I'm addicted to them (I'm mod for a rpg at a bud's site) I thought I might do such a crossover. Just don't know if it's accepted around here since TFs haven't been big in games for years...

Well that could work, and since Slofs doing I know it will. Anyway wasn't there a descussion here once about SG1vPredators.

I really don't have a clue what TFs are (damn me for spending all my money on non game related items)

Err, that's a complicated matter... let's say there have been many different toylines and shows of the Transformers ; they had lots of incarnations.
Yes, there was a show called Beast Wars and a sequel called Beast Machines, both done with CGI animation. Then there was the original Generation 1 from 1984, introducing Autobots and Decepticons to the world... now we recentlly had Robots in Disguise and the current line, Armada.
Like I said, complicated matter. The boring and kiddy it may sound, those robots kick ass and I think a crossover with AvP would suit them fine.
Btw, if anyone is interested in some TF episodes (no matter which line), mail me, have them all.

I was gonna ask, but Cliff beat me to it! The Transformers passed me by as I was grown up before they were around! Yep, I'm an old bitch!

Old... seemingly. Bitch...? Can't tell, haven't been here long enough. Skilled, that's for sure.
Sorry if my last post falls into the category 'sneak commercials', but being the mod for an entire rpg about these bots I'm always eager to plant the Cybertronians into others' minds.
Ooooh joy, school starts tomorrow... less than six hours before I crawl out of my bed, totally disoriented and feeling like I want to die.

The term 'bitch' seems to settle naturally upon us queenie aliens!

That bloody Ripley woman has a lot to answer for!

Alright with me if you punch a hole right through her skull.... although I'm thinking I might claim her head as a trophy myself. Someone who's killed so many of your kind would sure look good on the inner walls of my hut.

I feel lucky school only starts next week

Abd isn't a bitch a female dog? Don't really think a queen looks like a dog more like a insect from hell.

Yeah - but it is also a derogatory term for any female - remember that immortal line from Aliens:

Ripley: 'Get away from her, you BITCH!'

Queen: 'HSSSSSSSSSSSS!'

So therefore Queen Alien = bitch

Seems like you're somewhat of eager to defend that... 'title'. Well, I just couldn't imagine your queen tolerate Si Levitan calling her 'Bitchy' as a nickname.
