In August 2006, the editors of Gamasutra asked its readership of game industry professionals to chime in and vote for which game in the first-person shooter genre "brought the genre forward" in the biggest way - whether it be an early game that helped define the FPS, or a more recent one which took those core ideas and developed a more rewarding experience than before.
See Gamasutra for the list.
The Jaguar AvP game made honorable mention.

Very good list, however, there should be more on there...
Thats thetrouble with just top 10, there should be more like a top20 or something, just the best games of the last 15 years

It wasn't really the best games, it was the most influential for the genre as a whole. There could be plenty of FPS that did nothing new, but did it so well that it was a very good game. Many people would consider HALO in that category, although I'm not a good judge of standard FPS games. Or there could be plenty of games that were very good and did a lot new, but none of what they did was ever used again. The Metroid Prime games would be in that category if you consider them FPS games (a subject of some debate). However, although both of these games would likely belong on a top 10 list, neither are particularly influential to the genre as a whole and thus do not belong on this particular list.
