We already have a whole bunch of threads, but I thought I start another one.
To bring in the idea from other threads, like the fan AvP movieor here. Whats happening with that?
We have had chat about the possible script for the AvP movie here.
Now that romours are going around as to what the actual AvP movie is about. Do you think it's a dissappoinment? Will it kill of the genre?
Will we ever get another alien movie? or has Resurorection seen to the end of that?
You even want to see another movie, or are the current set enough?

Official site: www.avp-movie.com/ It has backgrounds, the teaser, and a behind-the-scenes feature that explains part of the story. The movie is slated for an Aug 6 2003 release.
In the entire site they don't mention Dark Horse at all.
Here is the IGn article (WITH SPOILERS!!!!!)

Have you?
Good.
Predators would drop adolescent predators on earth in a ritual manhood ceremony. Once here they would commence battle upon aztec pyramids which were provided for them as they were seen as gods. Then the predators would face a hive inside the pyramid and prove that they are true predators. Unfortunately the trip goes wrong and all the aliens are pretty pissed off. After heavy casualties the remaining pred activates his wrist nuke and causes a nuclear winter, forcing it now to become antartica. This also explains why many ancient civilisations have dissappeared.
Now zoom forward to present day and the predators have started to use this old hunting site again as it seems something down there survived. A weyland yutani icebreaker ship starts noticing some weird air traffic in the area and a crew is immediately sent to investigate where they uncover the remnants of a ghost town, which was once populated with researchers investigating the antartica core, the sudden appearance of pyramids in the ice and an underground network of caves has been discovered. Unwittingly they stumble across something and so the chaos ensues...

AND the fact they use part of the Steve Perry book, but no credit. The book would have been awesome as a movie

What kind of nuke did they use now? The previous detonation didn't do much. We have detonated quite a few nukes and never brought a nuclear winter about.
Did we notice the big bang?
Cool idea with the Ancient Civilisations tho'.
Why do we need Preds help? It's our planet. Today, the Marine Expeditionary Units/the SAS/SBS/etc would be able to handle it. With help from the fly boys (Fighterbombers, attact helicopters), no Xeno would survive, so why the Preds????
Is it holywood money machine at work? Again? Did no one learn anything for Resurrection?
It seems like Aliens, but much more pathetic reason for the battle, and simply throughing some Preds into

I think that the pyramids had some sort of nuclear core powering the predator ships that would travel nearby, so when one went boom, it all went boom.
This was thousands of years before modern human civilisations we now know, and there was no one survived the explosion to tell.
Many scientists these days still dont know how some of these great pyramids were built, so according to this predators helped construct these for their battles.
And all I know so far is that they dont see the need to call in marines as its only a science operation. So the scientists go to the small abandoned US base where they hope to be escorted to the sight of the odd air traffic. But no one is there, luckily the base was built just about ontop of the sight and they make their own way there. Thats when the discover the ruins of the temple and find that they have been sealed over recently. So they call in this kick ass crew of oil drillers, whos leader seems alot like blaine from predator 1.
They cut seal open and explore, the drillers continue to clear away more of the temple upon the surface while the science team make their way down. They then accidently start the reaction that causes the long dormant queen to lay. This is the cue for the predators who begin to attack the oil drillers upon the surface, only the leader lives and he makes his way into the caves, where the Predators then discover the awkening of the queen and begin to close in on both species....you can pretty much guess what happens from now on.

Personally I'm not too keen on the "Predators shaping human history" plotline, it doesn't tie into history very well. I've got no problem with them hunting the xenos across Antarctica though, that seems perfectly reasonable.
If the Preds needed manpower to build the pyramids in the Antarctic, it's more in keeping with their racial personality to sneak in and abduct half the population of a few isolated villages. They wouldn't enslave most of the world's population and bring it down to Antarctica.

Power tools?
Is Black&Decker sponsoring this movie or something?
All the humans have to do is activate an exmergency beacon and wait for the rescue.
It just seems to be to be half-arsed attempt to have a problem.
Like in the Star Treck episodes, they fall in to drouble so that they could get out of it again over the next 40 minutes. An alsways you teel your self, why didn't they just do this or that.
At that point in time, we travel to the stars and yet we cannot detect some one entering the Earths' atmosphere and tracking their direction of travel.
It really seems to me like the executives at the movie company just said "we need another brainner/no storyline shoot 'em up movie, what should we have?". "I know!" says another, "we have a great script for AvP movie, but we can bin that and go with your idea".
It the action was in a neighbouring solar system that would be a LITTLE bit better. It would take a sometime for rescue to arrive, why was there an Aztec like civilisation there, etc....

There seems to be a "mayan fobia" going around. WHY??? I know its gonna chop the budget, by filming in the jungle [can you imagine the permission costs of filming a DAY in NYC??].
It reeks of a desperate attempt at resurrection... of BOTH genres.
"bring both species to Earth, someone MIGHT notice the movie because...their cousin might live there...." bollox

You had US military in a foraign country, in the Jungle looking for something very different from what they found. Great, in the end it was his military trainning and intuition that saved him.
Predator 2, was placed in a very piculiar world. In the first, you can easy say it was our world in the earyl eighties or something. But the second one looked like the world of RoboCop. But still it was a drastic change from the original and thats why it was good.
With the Alien series we had civilians running around and dieing one by as with no reall weapons to save them (Alien & Alien 3). We had the marines going to whip some arse and got more that the bargined for (Aliens). We had the military play God and dieing whilst some mercineries try to run away and survive (Alien Resurrection)[but atleast they have weapons and some brains]. And with each movie they are getting closer to earth and still not get any re-enforcements
So in this final movie they finaly reach Earth for it's location. We go back to civilians dieing with no weapons. No re-enforcements. Cut off from everyone else. The predators are thrown in at the end so that the produces can say it's not another Alien(s) movie.
