Many movies are based on books, comics, or video games, and many games, books, and comics are based on movies. This list includes The Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, Mortal Kombat, The Mask, Final Fantasy, and our beloved Alien and Predator series. Sometimes the converion process is faithful, sometimes it isn't. Somtimes the conversion process has good results, sometimes it doesn't. And many times peoples' opinions on the conversion is different. This is the place to discuss, debate, praise, or vent about movies that were converted to or from another medium.

Jurassic Park is a strange example, and incidentally is what gave me the idea for this topic. I agree Jurassic Park was a really good movie. However, it was not very faithful to the book. It had the same basic idea, but the the plot and most of the characters were very different. I think that Jurassic Park is a great movie, however compared to the book it is pretty bad. The book is just in a whole other ballpark from the movie in terms of quality. This probably had a lot to do with the book being able to be much longer than the movie can be. There isn't time for as many events, and there isn't enough time for the same degree of characterization. But I am glad I watched the movie first, I think that if I had read the book first I would not have enjoyed the movie anywhere near as much. The movie just can't compare to the book.

Mine would have to be about the movie, Solo, with the main character playing the robot, Mario Van Peebles. I first read both weapon and solo before the movie came out.
Weapon is the first and Solo is it's second but the movie named Solo is based on everything that happened in the first book.
The whole movie sucked, it blew chunks, to me they only focused on Mario and explosions, yeah it's just a movie and movies do that, but what ticks me off was that they based it on a book, the movie just had the first book main plot, a robot begins to understand what feelings are and changes its mind about killing innocent humans and that was it. And the rest, the essence that made me like the book in the first place to read the second was totally ignored.
I wish they would of never made the movie, now if someone sees the movie first then sees the book, they won't read it 'cause the movie was so stupid.

I have just had another sad experience of watching a video-game to movie conversion.
Bloodrayn
Don't know much about the game, but jeez was the movie bad.
There was Kristinna Loken (TX from Terminator 3), Michelle Rodriguez (SWAT, LOST 2, etc), and Ben Kingsley.
So they have some people who can act and look good (a requirement of todays hollywood).
But then they get a B grade actor like Michael Madsen...
All these actors need guidance from the director where to go, and Michael Madsen ends up giving us a performance that is on par with a school play of 12 year olds !!!!
Ben Kingsley (isn't he a SIR now?) is just lost... just aswell might get some one from the local old peoples home, would be much cheaper. He has not been given direction to where to take his character and that is clear in the movie as Kingsley is all over the place.
Kristinna Loken ... looks good but that's all. i think the director was trying to rip-off Underworld, but he really missed the whole point of it. In the end, the only high point is when she takes her top off (I know this is very sexist, and should not really be discussed in details due to the younger members of the site, but that's how bad the movie really is.)
Michelle Rodriguez should not have even signed up for the movie... Why on earth did they get Michelle and just not use her at all? Complete waste of good acting tallent. Did she not read the script?
I guess the movie can be summend up by the initial credits. They listed everyone there ! (that means the producers are not expecting anyone to stay to the end of the movie to see them!!!). The moment I saw the words "Special Appearence By Billy Zane", I knew this is going to be bad.
Why would you put "special appearence" in a movie? TV series yes, but not a movie. Did the idiot of a director think he was going to make a sequal?
