As the movie is hitting cinemas this weekend across the UK,I was wondering what our fellow gamers got to say about it.

Many of you would have seen it now (not only in America, but it seems most of Europe as well), should we spend our hard earned pounds or should we use it to buy a new game instead?

Is it what you hoped for?

Is it good enough for the genre or has it ruined it ? (as bad as Aliens 4 ? )

It was pretty good if you are a fan of the games. It contained more of the suprise and suspense element of Doom 3. I would have prefered to see more actual daemons in it like in the earlier PC games. It had mostly zombies from Doom3 as well.

(I may accidentally spoil some of the movie so don't read further if you care to.)

The only thing I found confusing was the main character. They portrayed "Sarge" (The Rock) to be the main character by putting him largely in the spotlight, and then mid-movie they changed to "Reaper".

It was a nice move on the part of the makers.

they wanted to make a bond with the viewer so that we cared what happend to Sarge...

But...

I did find that Reaper was let out for too long, just a few more mentions along the way would have been better.

At first you get the impression he will be important to the storyline so you try to keep upto date on what is background. HOwever, I then got the impression he was there to provide a link to the Female Scientist (for those who have watched the movie you know the link), and to provide a bit of conflict.

Then he comes right back to lead the movie. So you think to yourself "who is he?" I just spent an hour ignoring him !

Overall it was a good movie. One can always chip away at it, but it was a welcome break from all the 12 & 15 certificate teenage boy CGI over filled pocket money grabber.

Shame there are not more movies out there or coming soon that are made for the delivery of a good product rather the trying too please too many. there have been so many movies that have tried to please everyone and as a result simply not worth the cinema ticket.

When I was like 6 or so...I was like "I hope they come out with a Doom movie." lol...

I would spend money to see it in theatres because the effects and sound wouldn't be as good without it.

I gotta agree with that link to the Female scientist...and personally, I thought they would kill him off and Sarge would be the hero.

I'm guessing the in-game equivalent to the injection would be like a "Megasphere" and "Invulnerability Sphere" both mixed into one.

It would be sweet if they make a sequel with actual SATANIC and OCCULT stuff like in the games. Personally, see him pump a rocket into the skull of the Icon of Sin would be sweet as well.

----By the way...in Final and Doom 2, if you activate clipping mode, you can find a secret passageway in the skull of the icon, that leads to a guy's head on a steak. That appears to be the health of the monster. WHAT THE HECK IS IT? AND WHO IS IT? It freaks me out. (kinda looks like Glenn Danzig).

That was John Romero's head on a stick! John Romero was part of the id team back then. When you fired the rockets in accurately, they struck that head - I think it took 3 shots to destroy it totally.

I enjoyed the movie - it lived up to the expectations I had of it, and I especially liked the 1st-person bit, as it kept some of the charm of the games! I've been a huge fan of Doom since it was new, and played, then modded it to death, and I still rate it my #1 favourite game - even over Morrowind which I mod for a lot now.

I liked the First person bit, although the movie was a bit vague but it wasn't too bad, like Kore said, "I would have liked to see the original Doom bad guys, not the Zombies, i think they kill it a bit (how many movies have zombies in them...?!)

It's got some extras, but nothing really, i just love seeing "Unrated" on my copy instead of nothing...makes it slightly more special.

It was a good film in its own rights, it was a terrible Doom film. It just wasn't Doom.

As i Said...not enough Demons and satanic stuff for a Doom thing....reapers should have died, went to hell, put a rocket into a giant cowskull, and comeback to kick more ass
