I think we should have custom icons next to our names but not that little stuff you sould atleast beable to see the pic.

We simply chopped the code for the initial startup period.



Icons and sigs in forums turn each and every thread into a showoff, instead of a content-rich platform for discussion. [look at many Unreal forums, they're just sig showoff threads]



We wanna see how the traffic/setup works before increasing the options available.

I know I should probably know, but what is the current status of rankings anyway? Like, I know how most who arent moderators (like me...but I've been considering perhaps applying, even though I have near 0% software knowledge ) have the title "just popping in"...maybe you could just have titles, like suckling, youngblood, warrior, veteran, elder, commander, yautja priest...something like that maybe? Who says we even need icons...it would just make it more difficult to formulate.

Well, I like the idea of custom icons, but not until a certain number of posts have been achieved (a la GG forums), with maybe the exception of moderators/administrators since we're guarenteed to be around here a while. I do agree with demi about the signatures, though, it does nothing but provide an outlet for showing off, so I'd steer clear of those. A ranking scheme and titles (i.e. egg, facehugger, etc, etc) would also be cool it think. At the same time, there's probably more important things that need to be done for the site. But, when the time comes, I'd like to see a few of these things implemented. Again, I do agree with demi, I'd like to see the usage level of the forums up before doing anything.

set up a predator ranking and I'll have a go at redoing the names.

The only problem with a ranking system is you start to get people putting up posts just to get their rank up higher.

thats why you need tough moderation.



Plus, with our live chat feature, users ain't got any reason to post crap, if they can talk it live.

we could do icons. not that custom thing- simply a list of some that people could choose from. Start dumping movies and games for 40by40 images. send over and I'll make a list....

we're looking at two systems:



1. there is a drop down menu in your personal profile with a list of ALL the icons on the site. You simply choose one and its assigned to your profile name and pops up in your profile page and in the forums [maybe even in chat too...]



issue here is: many people can have the same pic...



2. we write a code that allows you to upload your own pic [that would be unique to each person].



issue:

- weird uploads

- possible stupidity

- issues with integrating the code[takes time and thats something we AIN'T got at the moment]



So, my advice would be to allow the dropdown choice of icons.

That means that someone has to do a few dozen 40by40 pixel pics [and minimize their size tooo]

I can do a few...what kind? Like, any specifics in mind? Where should I send em? I find that when I find a pic I like, I save it, but then I just make an icon out of it for some reason, often 50x50...I dont know why, just a habit.

That doesn't sound too bad, send some over and we will see what we can do [any theme will be considered; some from the AvP(s), Simpsons, etc]

I think Predrhone will have to make a lot of icons if he will even make them.

It would be nice if some were from the Avp universe...

I have actually just made about 15, maybe a little more, aliens/predator or related stuff icons, 40x40, including a few human characters (i.e Hicks, Hudson, Blain.) If you want em, just tell me where.



Ok, just counted, I have 22 40x40 Aliens or Predator related icons made, including at least 8 human characters.
