This is a neat little thread I came up with while watching the shopping channel. Basically all I want you to do is describe a weapon that can be used by either the predator or the marine. ou have to describe what it looks like, its advantages and disadvantages. then a few posts later we all decide which would be best..

Smartgun 10x
This is the basic smartgun model (We should all know what that looks like) but instaed where the original smart gun actually relied on an independidly rotating nozzle the new smartgun actually uses smart bullets which can actually change direction even after leaving the gun.

This is due to the new onboard compuer, also there is a large magnetic cone infront of the nozzle. Basically saying once you have fired upon a moving enemy the computer keeps tracks on its movement and shifts the magnetic charge in the nozzle in order to change the movement of the smart bullet.

The new smart guns bullets also travel in pairs, so it makes it more likely for the enemy to sustain a hit. And now the bullets are coated in a layer of phosphurus which burns inside the enemy and allows the computer to keep track of the target even when out of visual range.

A major downside to this weapon is it does not have a great angle of change, so if the enemy moves away to quickly the bullet cannot compensate and veers wildly off course, meaning the smartgunner should always be at the front of the attack. Also the gun itself is very heavy considering it has to carry the new CPU unit and the phosphurs tank on the side. This weapon is only really recommended to be used by synthetics as the unit also requires heavy amount of armour, also a heavy weapons personel may need to operate this. But the gun has proved succesful when attached to an APC or other assault veichles.

This is a great weapon for all combat uses and when against mutliple targets or cloaked targets. All you have to do is press the trigger!

(And I do realise now that I deleted a major part of the the thread, the intro. So I inserted it back in and now it makes more sense. Sorry for the confusion)

Predator Thorn rifle
This weapon is a type of railgun. It operates by using electromagnetic induction to accelerating an osmium-iridium alloy projectile to hypersonic velocities (mach 6, or 4560 mph). At these velocities the projectile shatters the molecules in the atmosphere, creating a coating of plasma that will ignite any flammable object that comes within a few inches of the projectile as it moves, even some metals will catch fire. At these speeds the projectile will punch through just about anything. If it punches through armor, the projectile will flash-melt the armor, spraying superheated molten metal, plastic, or ceramic all over whatever the armor is trying to protect. The shockwave formed as the bullet hits shatters even the strongest alloy or ceramic armor like glass. Part of any target that is hit is transformed to plasma, creating a small secondary explosion. The projectiles are coated with the predator's special alloy so they will keep their shape no matter what they hit, and the plasma won't dull the razor-sharp tip of the projectile at all. But for added lethality, the railgun projectile seperates into 5 individual darts upon leaving tha barrel. The darts spread out in a horizontal line, allowing multiple targets to be hit. The darts are unguided (there wouldn't be enough time to change direction anyway, at hypersonic velocities the bullet hits its target almost immediately). The gun is capable of firing rapidly fot about 20 rounds, at which point the capacitors runs out and the gun has to wait a few minutes to recharge. It is better to fire in brief pulses or in semiautomatic mode, in which case the capacitors will never run dry.

There are some serious issues with this weapon, however. The five darts are, unlike a scattergun, all very lethal on their own. You don't need all of them to hit a target to destroy it, just one is enough to kill any lifeform known and destroy most armored targets. But the spread means the attack is rather indiscriminate, something predators do not like much. In addition, the plasma created lights leave a RF emission trail that any human military could detect and track from half a mile away, giving away the user's position. The darts are rather small, any larger and the already massive recoil would be unmanageable even by the strongest predator, even with this weapon's heavy active recoil damping. No humman could lift this weapon, not to mention use it. The bullets' size means the chance of scoring a glancing hit is minimal. The included fusion reactor is plenty to power the weapon, but the weapon is massive. Even a predator would be hard pressed to cary anthing else besides a spear or sword with this weapon. The weight makes the gun a bit hard to aim without a bipod or tripod (you could hit a dropship from 10 miles away, but good luck holding the gun steady enough to hit anything farther than 700 yards). You also can't keep the gun steady on a target over the course of a 4-round burst, not to mention automatic fire. The very heavy osmium-iridium alloy bullets limits the amount of ammunition that can be carried (osmium/iridium alloy is almost twice as dense as lead and almost 20% denser than delpeted uranium, each 100-round clip weights 40 pounds). Finally, the darts' huge sonic boom means this gun is anything but stealthy.

This gun is uneblievably powerful. If all you care about is slaughtering your enemies, this gun is ideal. It WILL kill anything you come across. If you like stealth, though, this gun will not be your favorite, and if anything goes wrong with the gun you won't have much in the way of backup weaponry. You also won't be dodging bullets, climbing trees or buildings, or doing much of anything besides walking and shooting. You won't be walking very quickly, either.

Advanced Prototype Exo Suit - 01

This suit, unlike the later version, completely encompasses its pilot from head to toe in 8 inches of reinforced tungsten. This model, instead of being equipped with a wide assortment of weapons, can only be equipped with 1 function weapon at a time. Its right arm has interchangeable sockets for a wide variety of fire arms while its left arm consists of a three fingeredhand that can be launched like a grappling hook up to 70 yards. It standsat 12ft tall with the pilot operating it from the chest cavity. Arms and legs "plug in" directly into the suits. Once the suits ammunition is depleted, the ammo pack is detatched and the unit can use thrusters built into the bottoms of its feet and lower back for quick escapes.

Chain gun:
This is a 3 barreled weapon and comes three different barrel attachments sizes, 10mm being its smallest, 15mm its next biggest and 20mm as its largest size. The downside is that the larger the barrel size, the less ammo the suit can carry. A pack containing the ammo is installed onto the units back
and can hold anywhere from 950 to 2000 rounds and fires them at a rate of three rounds per second. This is an all purpose weapon used in front line combat.

Greneade Launcher:
This is a six barreled weapon that can fire one of 6 types of grenades, Standard, Sticky, Incendiary, Siesmic, Timed and EMP. This weapons is typically used for defensive purposes.

Laser:
The weapon shoots a concentrated partical beam out over great distances causing massive damage to anything it touches. The barrel can be adjusted to make the beam larger or smaller. The larger the beams size, the more energy it draws from the power pack mounted on the units back. It can be set for quick pulses or continous fire. This weapon is often used for sniping missions or during ariel assults.

Flame Thrower:
This weapon sprays an arc of flaming napalm jelly 50ft, burning anything it touches. The main Drawback to this weapon is if the fuel canisters that hold the napalm are hit, they will explode destroying the unit and sending globs of flaming napalm in all directions. This weapon is typically used for "clean-up" instances where after the main forces have finished the flame units go through and clean out any enemies that might have been missed.

Grappling Hand:
This weapon, unlike the others, is attached to the left hand is not interchangeable. The cord used in the arm is made of a 1000lbs test metal, and can be shot up to 70yards before it runs out of cord. It can be used in and out of battle. When in battle, once the hand has a firm grasp on an enemy, 50,000 volts are charged through the metal cord connector, electrifying whatever the user has in its grasp.

The main drawback to the APE is its ammo consumption. Once the pilot has used it up the only other weapon it has is the Grappling Hand which has a limited affect on most other units. The foot and lower back thruster are also limited in there capability and can only carry the user short distance before over-heating becomes a problem.

LOL, nice one Cat, have you posted anything like this on AvP newsor the likes of anyother AvP site? i think i can remember seeing this some where else, but i could be mistaken. No offense meant.

Thanks!

What's the AvP newsor? Anyway I haven't posted it on any other AvP sites. Aliens: CMTM talks about hypersonic railguns on ships, but its railguns are pretty different from this one (if I remember correctly).
