I think that ship wasn't necissarily going to be used to escape Earth or anything... just to get to the mainlands. With all the collective knowledge the Thing possesses, it could have discovered some simple, key element to flying that we passed over, and would use that to power it's ship. Plus, think of everything it could get from the base, like machine parts from a dozen different vehicles, plus tools and scrap from the base, and fuel. I doubt it would use the ship, or maybe even be able to use the ship to escape earth. It more than likely just wanted to get to civilazation, and if it ever wanted to leave, it would have a lot more options there.

exactly--but there still is a MASSIVE amount of alien knowledge that the BlairMoster had in him--which begs the question--does the thing incorporate ALL knowledge of its victims??

That UFO reminds me of the hover-cars they were designing in the 1960's.

I think the Thing would "store" all memory and/or instints that its victims ever had, although never necissarily tap into that knowledge.

And I was thinking the same thing; those floating hovercrafts that putter above the the ground, ala 'Body Harvest'.

But that would require genetic memory.
And therefore it would not have everyones memories, but only those that that specific 'strain' had come from....

Not necissarily true; it could have identified everything by the memory of a human (the mechanic) and, with its higher intelligence, realize that certain alterations could be made, and a floating vehicle would be the result.

I love the thing! I have the game and the DVD, although the head bit is a bit silly!

i wonder what the thing was like before it ever imitated anything. was the monstosity at the end that? also, it must have some prior intelligence - it slammed into earth in a ship.

Maybe its braines got fried when it did that! And was a big clump of s*tt wanting to feed on huamns!!
