As some of you may know i used to play AvP2 on 640X480 res and on lowest detail graphics (it was hell i tell you....HELL)



Now , thank the lord, i play it with 1024X768 with best graphics...and its all thanks to a few upgrades:



128RAM > 512RAM (DDR make that)

Pentium 3 600MHZ > AMD Athlon XP1800

ATI Rage fury (16MB - AAAAAH) > GeForce 4 MX440 (64MB)



Dont suffer like i did.....just annoy you parents till they HAVE to spend cash on you

I just suffered a terminal meltdown of my Athlon mobo, so I was forced to use an "older" comp in the house [with some "enhancements"].



So, the "new" ["old"] setup is an impressive Creative GeForce thingy with 32 DDR, 512 Ram and......



a Cyrix 266

all trying to run a 19" on 1600by1200.



For reference--my "new" Cyrix takes LONGER to actually count all the new RAM attached to its mobo that the prvious rig did to LOAD the OS, and all [19 or so] applications that ran on my rig at all times.

Out of historical interest, the Cyrix mobo is certified to a maximum of 333 MHz processor speed, has a massive 3 PCI slots and 3 [THREE] ISA slots. It actually is just about the SIZE of my GeForce graphics card.



The fan on it is MUCH smaller that the one on my GeForce GPU.



Logically, my gaming experience is reduced to [just about] minesweeper and PacMan [I think, although it COULD overstress the rig].

So.. I assuume that UT2003 should run easily on Max spec.

out of desperation have quickly ordered another Athlon 1800 and mobo plus some more DDR and a G4 Ti4200. Gear arrives tomorrow and I'm continuing to mod the case.

It's a little old, but I've yet to find a game it can't handle, it runs anything at damn good framerates, smooth as anything, no glitches. I guess it's just one of those instances where all the parts really get along together, as a m8 of mine has a similar rig, same speed, ram, gfx, etc, yet mine runs games at twice the speed his does! I run Quake 3 at 1024 x 768, with all the whistles and bells, textures on maximum detail, poly's on maximum, and I still get 200+ frames per sec

I have reasently purchashed an 'Ice Cube' external HD (120 gig) it is a nice piece of equipment. as well as this i brought some more DMM as well now i am running at 526 and i couldn't be happyer.

Upgraded my Athlon 850 T-bird to:

Microstar Turbo 2 mobo with Athlon XP 2100+.

320MB RAM (64+256), hmmmmm, might up that.

Microstar GeForce 4Ti4200/64.

Audigy player sound card.

Logitech Z-560 4.1 speakers.

Hercules Prophetview 720 15" LCD monitor.

Storms along.

im sitting around waiting for a patch for the GF4 MX440 so i can play Unreal tournament 2003 properly

I was think about athlon, but i ended up getting pen4 2.4 ghz,512khigh performance heat sheilded(from corsair) a geforce4ti4600, and audigy2. as well as some other handy dandy things, but i did once have a 1.8ghz, 64mb vid, and audigygame so I can relate

That's a bit unfair - we like talking about our computers. If you don't like that, sod off and leave us alone. My own rig is entirely paid for by MYSELF, daddy didn't help me with mine. It may not be as powerful as yours, but my modded case is world-famous and probably worth a good deal more than your whole rig - on its OWN - without the computer in it, simply because it is unique!

I have to agree with sloffy, besides from what you've described, you wasted alot of money. 3GHz!!?? Dude, an athlon at 1.8-2.0 GHz is easily better. It's more bang for you buck. And the GF4600? Same thing, a GF4200 8gpx is much better. But I bet my case( no offense slof) is much more valuable than the money you wasted. Oh, and 1 more thing, I really think you are lying because no one could possibly be THAT stupid. But then again, I could be wrong
